Dozens of far-flung and remote villages near the Line of Control (LoC), including the border town of Keran, Karnah, Tangdhar and Gurez, were cut off from their respective district headquarters on Friday, due to fresh snowfall and slippery road conditions in north Kashmir.

Official sources said, “The road between Kupwara to border town of Keran was closed due to moderate to heavy snowfall, since last night. The road has become slippery,” they told TNN, adding that no traffic movement was allowed, to avoid any accident.

“Likewise, Kupwara-Tanghdar and Kupwara-Karnah roads were also closed due to snowfall,” they said.

They said dozens of remote villages from their tehsil and district headquarters were also cut off after closure of Sadhna top, Razdan top, Z-Gali, Phirkiyan pass and other passes due to moderate to heavy snowfall during the last 24 hours. However, efforts were being made to restore traffic on these roads.

The border town of Gurez, surrounded by Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) from three sides, was also cut off from district headquarters in Bandipora, due to snowfall.
