One killed, 8 injured in road accidents: Police


Jammu: One person died while 8 others sustained injuries in separate road accidents in region on Monday, said a police spokesman.

He said that one Anoop Kumar (58) son of BansiLal of Jani Bazar, Samba, was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu after he was hit by a tipper at Bari Brahamana area on Monday.

“The person succumbed to his injuries later in the day,” he said, adding that the body of the deceased was handed over to his family members after performing the legal formalities at the medical college Jammu, while a case under relevant sections of the law is registered at police station Bari Brahamana.

Meanwhile, 8 people sustained injuries in different road accidents in the region today.

The police official said that three people identified as Tarvinder Singh (25) son of Bhagat Singh, Kuldeep Kumar (35) son of Som Raj, both residents of Kalakote and one Ranjeet Sharma (40) son of Sham Lal of Chak Kali, Rajouri, were injured after a tipper they were travelling in was hit by a truck at Narwal.

At Sainik Colony, Jammu, he said, a one-year-old male child, Anshu son of Satyam of Sainik Colony was injured after he was hit by a car.

At Manwal, he said, one Kuldeep Singh (45) son of Bhag Singh of Manwal sustained injuries when the scooty he was riding on slipped off the road. He was initially taken to district hospital Udhampur where doctors referred him to GMC&H Jammu.

The police official further said that at Marjali area falling under the jurisdiction of police station Gharota, one Chatter Singh (70) son of Desu of Marjali was injured after he was hit by a motorcycle.

Two people, identified as Muhammad Hamid (70) son of GulamRasool and Shafiqa Begum (60) wife of Abdul Hamid, were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with each other at Kishtwar.

All the injured were responding to treatment when the last report poured in. Meanwhile, police have registered cases under relevant sections of the law at concerned police stations and taken up further investigations.
